Seward Parks

Seward Parks range from large to small and have many amenities such as basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts, playground equipment, swings, picnic shelters, benches and tables, a fishing pond and a walking trail. View each of the parks below to find out more information.

Adopt A Park Program

The Seward Public Properties Division, in an effort to provide improved city park facilities, initiated an Adopt a Park sponsorship program. The purpose of the program is to upgrade and improve park playground equipment and facilities utilizing the resources of Seward’s civic groups. The civic group will develop pride of ownership in “their” park project while assisting the City of Seward to provide safer and better equipped facilities with the least amount of tax money being spent.

Adopt A Park Responsibilities

  • A committee from the civic group meets with the Public Properties Foreman to develop a plan
  • Raises money, applies for grants, etc. to fund plan
  • Schedules work days
  • Spring clean-up of park
  • Fall clean-up of park
  • New playground equipment installation
  • Painting/staining playground equipment and shelters

Public Properties Division Responsibilities

  • Normal park maintenance
  • Mowing/trimming
  • Weed control
  • Trash removal
  • Snow/ice removal
  • Tree/shrub care
  • Playground equipment maintenance and repair

Armory Park

Armory Park is located behind the new Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward. Explore the museum and then enjoy a nice picnic lunch in the shelter area.

Bek Park

314 E Hillcrest Drive, Seward, NE 68434

Bek Park is a small and simple place for relaxation. It is nestled among houses and is across from the the music building and Walz Human Performance Complex on the Concordia University campus. The park has three benches surrounding a circular garden and is delightful place to sit reading a book or chatting with friends.

Bemis Park

150 Bemis Dr, Seward, NE 68434

Bemis Park is located just off of Hwy. 34 on the east side of Seward. It is near the Parade of Flags and access to the Plum Creek Trail. This cozy little park is the perfect starting or ending spot for an afternoon of biking or walking along the trail. Bring a snack to enjoy out of the sun under the shelter or bring a basketball and shoot a few hoops. The kids will love the swings, slides, climbing structure and merry-go-round.

Centennial Park

1758 N 16th St, Seward, NE 68434

Centennial Park is located adjacent to the Seward County Fairgrounds. This park is the perfect location to get away from it all while you walk your dog along the banks of the Big Blue River or watch the birds and squirrels in the many established trees. Children love playing on the swings, slides and other playground equipment at the Kiddie Korral. There are also picnic shelters available for birthday parties or other gatherings of family and friends.

Cottonwood Park

Cottonwood Park is located on the south side of Seward. This quiet park has climbing equipment and a slide for the kids and also a picnic shelter and a sand volleyball court.

Independence Landing

1595 Fairgrounds Circle, Seward, NE 68434

Independence Landing is a newly renovated two-acre pond adjacent to the Seward County Fairgrounds and Centennial Park.  Recent renovations, coordinated by Seward County Bridges, increased access to the pond for handicapped persons, added fishing piers and picnic tables, and improved water quality to sustain a warm-water fishery. The pond is believed to have been built in the 1930’s as part of a Depression era program such as Works Projects Administration.  It is a focal point for youth fishing, recreation and community activities.

Karol Kay Park

Karol Kay Park is a favorite for many kids in Seward because it has lots of options for fun and exercise! Two swing sets, a merry-go-round, slides and places to climb make this a fantastic spot for children of all ages. The tall “tornado” slide is always a hit! There is also a basketball court, picnic shelter and benches where you can sit and relax.

Memorial Park

Memorial Park is just a couple of blocks away from downtown Seward and is situated along the parade route for the annual Fourth of July and Lighted Christmas parades. This cozy park includes a picnic table under a vine-covered canopy and a small playset for climbing and sliding that is perfect for younger children.

Moffitt Park

Moffitt Park is conveniently located next to Seward’s Dowding Municipal Pool making it a great spot to let the children play or enjoy a picnic lunch before taking a dip in the pool. Fun equipment for the kids includes a climbing structure with slides, swings and spring riders. A drinking fountain and restrooms help to make the park experience even more enjoyable.

Park Avenue Park

661 Park Ave, Seward, NE 68434

The Park Avenue park is nestled in a residential neighborhood just to the west of Highway 15. This quiet park has a slide, swing set and merry-go-round for children to enjoy. Several large trees provide some nice shade.

Plum Creek Park

2111 Karol Kay Blvd, Seward, NE 68434

Plum Creek Park is the largest park in Seward and is the location for the annual Fourth of July celebration fireworks display. The park is home to the Plum Creek Trail and Garden area, the Plum Creek Sports Complex, a disc golf course and the Cattle Athletic Training Center. This beautiful park is a popular location for picnics, flying kites, walking and many other types of recreation. On summer evenings this park is the place to be as families gather to watch ball games and cheer on their favorite player!
